Mayor’s Minute: Oct. 18, 2017
From Mayor Walt Maddox: Violent crime at any time, at any place is unacceptable. This weekend’s shooting on the Strip has put that at the forefront of many minds. The three individuals involved have over 350 prior interactions with the Tuscaloosa Police Department. In the short-term, the City of Tuscaloosa, TPD and other local law entities will continue to evaluate our safety protocols for game days and beyond.However, we must work on long-term solutions, one that will involve many players at many levels. Last year, the City asked the state legislature for stricter guidelines for alcohol sales. This coming year, we will continue those efforts as well as several others. Public safety is always our number one priority.
